Lakeway
Seriously, I know I say 'amazing' quite a bit, but our vacation to Lake Travis was simply that. We booked a house right on the lake with our own private pool and Nana, PawPaw, Uncle Steven, and Miss Amanda joined us. We had way too much sun but had a blast. It was spectacular and the homeowners were incredibly accommodating.
Uncle Steven and Miss Amanda surprised us and asked if Pierce and Harper could be in their wedding as ring bearer and flower girl. His fiance said that my brother has pretty much let her plan the entire wedding but having his nephew and niece in their wedding party was the one thing he really wanted. So special and we're absolutely honored. We hosted a BBQ (Steven's famous hamburgers) our first evening there for his future FIL/MIL. Amanda's mom brought a delicious cake and was just as sweet as can be and we look forward to getting to know each of her parents more. We are incredibly excited about Amanda joining our family. We've waited a long time for her (and so has Steven) so we know she's the one!
Nana and PawPaw were very helpful on the trip. Can we bring them on every vacation??
Pierce got to do lots of fishing and kayaking in the lake (first fishing trip and boat rides). Both kids enjoyed the pool quite a bit, with Harper being a little more reserved about it all. She was much more content playing in the shallow, beach-like entrance. We did a lil' geocaching but not much b/c the weather was extremely hot. Our last night there, we had a movie night. There was a huge "To Kill a Mockingbird" poster in their theatre room. It was stocked full of beverages, freshly popped popcorn, and a cabinet full of candy.
Oh and lest I forget, we were delivered free range organic chicken eggs and fresh peppers from their chickens and garden the last day we were there. Nana cooked up some delicious omelets garnished with fresh basil from their herb garden before checking out. I really wish I could've taken some of their herbs home too.....we had harvested rosemary, chives, and basil for our previous nights dinner on the grill (chicken and baked potatoes).
The kids are both feeling better and were troopers the whole trip. I've caught their URI or bronchitis or whatever it is. I'm miserable and feeling pretty guilty for making them leave town when they felt this way. But as some wise friends have reassured me, they had so much fun being sick in such a beautiful locale, wouldn't have healed any faster at home, plus we have lots of wonderful memories to take with us. Here's a slideshow to check out the fun: Lakeway
