another update re: new home
wow what a whirlwind this has been. we've jumped in with both feet and are going with the excitement though! hula we met with our builder to look at 2 different lots on sunday--the lot i showed you all pics of and another lot that mark and i had previously seen and liked but it was out of our price range (the price has since been lowered). however, what 1 lot has the other lot doesn't and vice versa. we were very close to making a decision until yesterday........... it seems God has other plans for us. heart there is a lot in this same neighborhood that mark and i have been interested in for about a year. it's owned by a builder who had plans to build a spec home on it. we aren't interested in his spec home, we just want to buy the lot from him. we've talked to him several times over the past year and we always get the same story--"i'm building a spec home there". well last week, in a last ditch effort, we called him 1 more time. we didn't hear back from him so we called him again. same thing, no return phone call. he finally called back yesterday and guess what?! he's at the point where he's prepared to "entertain offers" on the land! hula we bundled up our babes and went and looked at it again yesterday. it's perfect! luv it's 2 1/2 acres of woods--seriously the trees are so thick you can't even walk the entire lot. it has everything that the other lots don't have. i took a pic with my cell phone yesterday to show you all but i forgot to press "save". doh we called our realtor and asked him to pull the tax rolls on the property and everything else he could about the land. our builder is going to look at it to give us a rough estimate on lot prep. depending on the figure she gives us (it may need more work than we're willing to pay--it will need quite a bit of tree work, dirt work and a retaining wall), we may make an offer on the lot. please say some prayers for us that we will know if this is right for our family! heart tia.............. big hug

I guess Harper just needs the stay dry liner. Ohhh I hear them, gonna go change them and see what we're dealing with (hopefully rash-free bottoms and dry clothes). BRB.........

night solution, take 2
OK, we're trying it again. Both babes are in WAHM fitteds. They're bullet proof--fleece inners, fleece outers, hidden mircrofiber, and a fleece/microfiber lay in soaker. I usually don't use covers over these b/c they seriously are work horse diapers, but I put dappi nylon pull ons and fleece sleepers over them just in case. These are stay dry diapers so it'll test my theory that H woke last night from feeling wet. Meanwhile I have these in the wash with my diapers:

Harper's girly room
We finally re-decorated Harper's room. As you all know, we wait until delivery to find out the sex of our babies. It was so exciting to replace all of the gender neutral decor and make her room girly. We still have a few finishing touches to make (looking for 1 more wall hanging). Here it is:

mixed results
P slept all night long. His diaper was soaked this morning, but his clothes were dry. His bottom is still a lil' red, but it's hard to know if it's from being in cloth all night b/c he was a lil' red at bedtime.
H, on the other hand, wasn't a fan. She woke up around 2:45 am fussing. I let her fuss for a while (didn't wanna encourage night waking since she usually sleeps through). After a while i decided to go make sure she was dry. again, her clothes were perfectly dry. I snuggled her for a bit and put her back in bed. Same thing, she fussed. It went on for a while longer so on Mark's request, I changed her diaper (he actually told me to change her into a sposie-- he really said sposie--and not to use cloth at night again). Her diaper was wet, but her clothes were perfectly dry. I put her in a pure goodmama (Mark) and put her back to bed. She fussed off and on until 4 am before finally going back to sleep. I know she would've gone back down quicker if I had nursed her but again, I didn't wanna encouage night waking.

cloth at night
Both babes are in bed for the night with cloth on for the very 1st time. P is in baby blue goodmama and H is in a baby pink goodmama. They both have dappi nylon pull ons and fleece pjs on (figured I should try a waterproof cover before trying fleece longies alone). I'm really nervous as P has a bit of a rash (wore sposies Sunday b/c we were gone from home most of the day). My babies both sleep all night long, so hopefully they'll still sleep comfortably and wake up dry. Wish us luck!

Harper's big girl carseat
Today I went to our PD to have our carsets checked over since our car accident and to check installation of Harper's new convertible seat and P's seat since we moved it to a different chair. I'm so frickin' proud of myself b/c I installed both seats perfectly! This is the first time I've taken them in that she hasn't had to change something. She can always get 'em in way tighter than I can, but this time she said I made her proud and we don't need her anymore. I told her we hope to see her again in a year or so. ;-) Here's a pic of my lil' lady in her seat before I installed it (I think she likes it):

we're looking again
If you know us well, we're always kind of looking at new homes/land. That's just sort our thing--restaurants and real estate. Anyhoo, you may recall that we fell in love with a lake lot when we were newly pregnant with Harper. We found out about a hwy going up that would obstruct our waterfront view and withdrew our money (we had a hold on one of the lot). Then, about 2 weeks before Harper was born, we fell in love with a brand new home. We had quite a few issues with the home though (there was a public walkway right next to the house leading to a school, the back yard backed up to where busses parked, it wasn't good timing, etc.) which ultimately made it a no go for us. It finally sold. Last summer we found another home that we loved (didn't blog about it), but again it had some issues. We've always liked the home quite a bit, but I guess timing just wasn't good. Short of the long, we drove by it a few months ago and noticed the "for sale" sign was gone. We both kind of kicked ourselves for letting yet another home that we loved slip away. Fast fwd to Wednesday and Mark was searching realtor.com and said, "Guess what home is back on the mkt?" You guessed it......... the home we liked a lot last summer. Turns out, the owners just took it off the mkt and put it right back on the mkt (at a reduced price) to keep it from looking stagnant. We called our realtor and went and looked at the house again that afternoon. It's a brand new home. The owners had it built (they live and work about 40 miles away) and realized they didn't want such a long commute into work. It's never been lived in, in fact, there are a few things unfinished. So basically i'm asking for prayers as we are gettting pretty serious. I know this may seem like a silly thing to request prayers for, but we really need some guidance for what is best for our family. We've made quite a few pro/cons lists (we're nerds like that) and I thought I'd share. If any of you could offer any insight/experience/wisdom, we're all ears............................
Pros:
school district--zoned into a better school district as a whole. Our current home is zoned into a fabulous elementary and junior high, the high school not so much. The other home is in a really high rated district overall. We really want to move into this school district before our kids get too far in school (would prefer not to move them away from all of their friends.
land--this home is on 2 1/2 acres. Uur current home sets on about 1/2 acre. The few times we've gone to look at this home, Pierce runs wild giggling in the backyard. I know Harper will do the same. It's so special to watch--and that alone makes me wanna move.
trees--we've always wanted a lot with a ton of trees. Our home now has 4 trees in the front, and 3 in the back. This home is lacking of trees in the front, but I can't even begin to count the # of trees in the backyard.
finish out--don't get me wrong, I love my home. But we feel like the builder kind of forgot about the upstairs. There are lots of decorative touches downstairs, but the upstairs was slightly neglected. This home is finshed out equally upstairs and downstairs.
value--this home is on more land and is about 600 sq. feet more than our current home (for not much more money) and a home we would build for less money.
neighborhood--this neighborhood is amazing. Again don't get me wrong, I love my neighborhood, but it isn't as consistent as far as size of home. Mark's always wanted to have one of the smaller homes in a neighborhood--have more property value--and this home fits the bill. Our current home is one of the largest homes in the neighborhood which means we are helping everyone elses' property values.
Cons:
sentiment--again, if you know me well, I'm a sentimental sap. heart My babies were conceived in our current home, were brought home from the hospital here, learned to walk, talk, etc, here. I know we won't be in our home forever (we really have designs on building one day..........), I'm just not sure i'm emotionally ready to leave now. Mark's literally gonna have to drag me outta here kicking and screaming. The longer we stay in our current home though, this will only get harder
pond--there's a pond in the back yard. It's at the very far end of the back yard. We'll fence a smaller portion of the back yard in, so the kids can play w/o getting near it. But ultimately, we're worried about having it. 1st safety is of upmost concern. I know there are precautions we can take and the fence will help some. We'll also put a lock on the back door high up--p can easily unlock regular locks. 2nd snakes and mosquitos. We were told an aerater would help deter critters. 3rd maybe we should just fill it in. Problem here is that how the backyard is, we may have a water drainage problem and our backyard could become a sink hole. We definitely need an experts opinion on this. Ultimately this is the con that took this home out of the running for us last summer. We just couldn't get past it..........
start up costs--again we need to figure out what to do with the pond, install a fence, a refrigerator/freezer, and the whole house needs window treatments (blinds).
lay out--there are parts of the floor plan that I'm not really a fan of......but there are parts of the floor plan in our current home that i'm not a fan of either. Really though, this will be a problem with any home we buy, until we build. My biggest issue is there are 2 bedrooms downstair and 2 upstairs. Obviously we'd put P and H upstairs together. If and when we have a 3rd babe, we'd put him/her downstairs. Fast fwd to when our babies are a lil' older and I can see arguments--"Why does he/she get to be upstairs/downstairs?" Ideally, all kiddoes rooms would be upstairs. We'd use the room downstairs as a guest room as 1st, which I actually like the idea of having guest room downstairs.
2 mortgages--the housing mkt is great right now, if you are 1st time buyer. However, since we already own a home, it's a very real possiblity that we would have to carry 2 mortgages while we try to sale our current home (possibly for quite a while). While we are thankfully financially able to do so, the though of it is doing so isn't exactly appealing.
highway--this is kind of a double edged sword. The highway is very nearby which means it's a quick and easy commute to work for mark. However, the highway is near if you get what i'm saying. The neighborhood is back away, so I don't fear the kids going near it or anything. I'm just a lil' concerned about noise. Mark said it's just a hmmmmmmmmm when you are outside to him and you can't hear it indoors.

lots of firsts for Harper
Let's see, we need to recap............
Harper has been saying "dada" for several weeks now. Mama has to wait (yet again) behind Dada and Nana. She loves to whisper it--it's really sweet to hear. This weekend she started shaking her head "yes". She stood by herself for the very 1st time(she lets go briefly when cruising, but this time she stood for about 10-15 seconds by herself) on Monday. On Wednesday, she signed "milk" for the 1st time. She's been eating almost all table food and refuses most baby food for about 2 weeks now. And here's her 11 month watch me grow photo:

Papa being discharged again today
It's been a rough few days for him but he is yet again on the upswing. His partial bowel obstruction cleared. They gave him mega doses of antibiotics to clear up a kidney infection. However, he contracted C-DIFF (Clostridium Difficile). It's a GI infection caused from the natural flora of the stomach being disrupted from antibiotics (usually). Visitors had to take precautions after this diagnosis--had to wear masks/gowns/ and scrub their hands after leaving. Anyone who visited him prior to him contracting this is supposed to be on alert that they too may have been exposed to this nasty bug. C-Diff will remain in his system for months, but now that he's being released from the hospital, we don't have to be as cautious. They also did a kidney and gall bladder u/s and thankfully both came back normal. He had a few "spells" while there b/c part of the time he was n-po (nothing by mouth) and they were with holding his meds. He's bipoloar and was very angry with my grandmother for taking him to the hospital. Once they got him back on his meds (finally ended up crushing 'em up and putting 'em in his NG tube (a tube down his nose into his stomach to keep it empty to help clear the bowel obstruction), he realized he was where he needed to be to get better. I'm so thankful he's headed home! Thank you all again for get well prayers for my papa!

update on car accident
I don't think we're going to replace the carseats. I'm calling this week for installation checks on Harper's new seat anyway, so I'll ask the tech her opinion too.
As for calling the police..........I regret posting about this in detail. Mark cautioned me that I was opening myself up to criticism and in a way, I did. It is easy to say what you would've done when you aren't actually involved in the situation (heck before yesterday I would've guranteed you I would have called the cops too), but actually being in the situation with those thugs......we were pretty scared. I do feel like an awful citizen for not calling the police. I just don't wanna cross someone like that though. If it were just Mark and I, we most certainly would've reported them. But my babies, our everything, were with us!

moral dilemma
We (Mark, the kids, and I) were in a car accident today. Thankfully all of us and our truck are perfectly fine, we're just shooken up a bit. We were stopped at a red light and the idiot behind us decided not to stop and rear ended us. We all pulled over. Mark and the other driver got out to inspect damage while I checked my babies (P was woken up by the commotion, but H snoozed through it). Mark asked, "What happened back there?" 30 something man replied, "I'm fu*$ed up", begging Mark not to call the police. Mark surveys the damage (which was none) but still requests his info, just in case. While the man is getting it, I get out of the car to continue checking on my babies and look at my truck. Mark sternly tells me to get back in the car. At 1st glance, I can tell the man is in no shape to be driving and neither were his two buddies in his car. Before the man returns with his information, I ask Mark if we should call the police. He again requested I return to the car. By this time the man returns and I try to secretively suggest to mark we needed to call the police. So I said, "Are you sure we don't need to document this another way?" The man asks what I mean. I point blank tell him I wanted to call the police. He again begged us not to call the police. I told him I had 2 babies in the car and they were/are my priority. Mark again told me to get back in the car. Mark gets his info and we leave. Mark explains that he asked the other 2 in the car if they were in any better shape to drive than the current driver and none of them were. We wacthed them drive off and get this, park and get out at a sports bar across the street. Uh hello, wouldn't getting into a drunk driving accident sober you up enough to go home not partake in more?! So mark explains that he didn't trust these guys and was worried about our (the kids and my) safety. We discuss calling the police, but decide that we don't want to risk our children's safety. We took down their plate #, but are still torn up we didn't call the police. I couldn't live with myself if they left that bar and crossed someone else's path who may not have been as fortunate as us. I know we can report anonymously, but these drunk thugs know what we look like, what we drive, etc.................
We had just bought Harper's new Britax Boulevard, so it along with her Chicco infant seat and P's Boulevard were all in our truck. Mark doesn't think we need to replace any of the seats. I need to go to have our installation checked anyway, so I'll found out the protocal for this and see if a fender bender neccessitate seat replacements.

update on Papa
I just talked to my mom. Papa is still waiting to be admitted. It's not his heart this time, which is good news. I don't know what to make of what is going on b.c Mark's already gone to bed. They have diagnosed him with a kidney infection and started him on antibiotics. They did a CT scan b/c of stomach pain and found out he also has a partial lower bowel obstruction. Poor man has really been through the ringer. I'm so worried b/c I don't know how much more he can take at this point.

My cousin Rachel's baby shower was today. I looked around and asked where my grandmother is................taking papa back to the hospital! Same thing--dfficulty breathing. That's all I know at this point. Please pray for my grandfather.

back in service
I finally got a new cell phone! The man that helped us earlier in the week was working tonight. Mark and I both went with the enV(2). It's so nice to have a workingphone after mine being on the fritz for so long (only worked if it was plugged in, 1/2 the buttons didn't work, could no longer txt/send pix from it). It feels good being back in touch, although now I have to keep up with it.

Harper's 1st sign
Harper produced her 1st in context sign today......"more". She signed for more pancakes this morning. I admit we haven't been as consistent with teaching signs to Harper as we were with Pierce, but she's proven to be a fast learner and very intelligent.

sigh
Well, my endcrinologist appt was this afternoon and things well................
I left the office bawling.........
To start off, I was weighed. I weighed 93 pounds (after an Idian buffet lunch and trip to Starbucks). This is 3 pounds less than my last appt, but I feel its an unfair picture as I've been sick and have had little appetite. My weight stabilized sometime around Thanksgiving and has been stable around 95 pounds for about 4-6 weeks until I fell sick with this cold. My doc's not happy and is concerned. He aid if i were older, he'd think cancer. He was very curious to know when my last breast exam was, if breast cancer runs in my family (my paternal grandmother is a breast cancer survivor), and stressed the need for breast self exams. He said if by my next appt I have not put on more weight, we'll have to start doing more testing to see if i have any nutrient absorption problems or cancer. He said he's accustomed to seeing a lil' weight loss once patients start thyroid replacement meds but that this is an extreme amt of weight (~20 pounds) and is concerning b/c it's seemingly unexplained.
Now for my lack of period. He said he's not super concerned about this b/c I am still nursing. He did however say that he thinks it's also related to my weight loss. He said, just like girls with anorexia, when your weight reaches a certain level, your reproductive hormones go all wonky. He's gonna check my estrogen and another reproductive hormone with my next labs (even though when the previous crazy endo tested them they were in the normal range).
Which brings me to nursing..........he wants me to wean soon. To which I replied,"Hell no." Well not exactly, but I said I wouldn't even begin to consider cutting out feeds until Harper turns 1 and will continue nursing until 18 mos. (or whenever Harper chooses to stop). I asked him if it was a problem and he said, "No, nursing just uses up a lot of calories." I know i'm eating more calories, so I'm gonna continue nursing Harper as long as my supply provides for her.
Lastly, Lowe baby #3 needs to wait. I know we can't really go about trying to have another w/o my period anyway, but he said the soonest he felt comfortable with us trying will be in 6 months.
He asked me to make an appt with my ob for a bone density scan b/c he's concerned about osteoporosis. Mark and I already discussed that we feel like it's a good idea to make an appt with my ob anyway b/c we want to discuss with her our baby plans and how my thyroid and weigth are being treated.
On a good note, my thyroid is much improved. My TSH is now 3.6 (remember it was almost 93!). He said my hair loss should taper off and is normal (just like it is post partum) within 3-5 months of beginning hormone replacement. I'm to continue taking my current dosage of thyroid replacement meds and follow up with him in March. I have 6 labs that will be drawn prior to my appt (with 2 of them unnecessary if my period returns before then.)
So there it is, the good, the bad, and the downright ugly...........

To start off, I was weighed. I weighed 93 pounds (after an Idian buffet lunch and trip to Starbucks). This is 3 pounds less than my last appt, but I feel its an unfair picture as I've been sick and have had little appetite. My weight stabilized sometime around Thanksgiving and has been stable around 95 pounds for about 4-6 weeks until I fell sick with this cold. My doc's not happy and is concerned. He aid if i were older, he'd think cancer. He was very curious to know when my last breast exam was, if breast cancer runs in my family (my paternal grandmother is a breast cancer survivor), and stressed the need for breast self exams. He said if by my next appt I have not put on more weight, we'll have to start doing more testing to see if i have any nutrient absorption problems or cancer. He said he's accustomed to seeing a lil' weight loss once patients start thyroid replacement meds but that this is an extreme amt of weight (~20 pounds) and is concerning b/c it's seemingly unexplained.
Now for my lack of period. He said he's not super concerned about this b/c I am still nursing. He did however say that he thinks it's also related to my weight loss. eww, what's that smell?!
I just popped my newest fluff in the wash--brand new/never worn--Mutts and Dream Eze AIOs. When I went to the wash to get them, they stink like wet hay. I know Mutts have hemp/velour inners (with hidden bamboo) and Dream Eze has organic cotton inners. Is it the hemp and bamboo I'm smelling? I'm stoked about these natural fibers (we have a lot of microfiber in our stash) but I wasn't prepared for this smell....... I'm washing 'em again.
