P's 3 year well baby

was this morning and went wonderfully! He's growing great and is leaps and bounds ahead cognitively and physically! He got a chicken pox booster and was such a big boy--didn't even cry a wink! He passed his hearing test and has 20/30 vision (our ped said this is excellent b/c they don' reach 20/20 until around age 6). He is 36 1/4 inches tall in the 20-25% and 30.4 pounds in the 35%. I'm so proud of my sweet P!

P's cake

I'm so gosh darn proud of myself. It turned out way better than I ever imagined. I had help (read: a lot) from my mom. Here it is:

And here's the special boy it's for!

I just popped open

a bottle of wine gifted to me by my MB friends at our fiesta. Today was my last day of pumping and I am rewarding myself with a glass. It made me chuckle to think of my friend Lisa (one of the shyest (is this a word?) in the bunch) being designated to present it in front of everyone. Anyhoo, thanks to my mama friends for making a bittersweet day a lil' more special.

double whammy, emotional mama

So I'm just now starting to feel okay about Harper suddenly self weaning. Then another bomb was dropped on us unexpectedly last week............ Why do our babies have to grow up so fast?

A lil' background.........
We signed both our babies up for a very prominent local preschool program when they were newborns. It's an extremely small, university affiliated program and is very hard to get into--hence signing them up when they were each just a few weeks old. They only have 2 classes--3s and 4s. We had planned to start P this fall.

Well, they called last week to update his application and told us he was eligible to start this summer. Since he is eligible to start this summer, if we don't start him, they move down on the wait list. Fair enough--if they have spaces, they should be able to fill them. Well, of we pass on summer and if there isn't an open space in the fall, we lose out--even though P was one of the 1st '06 babies on the wait list. Which puts us in a bind and forces us to start him in June. They said we could send him for just a few days a week to help transition him (and me). Mark suggested we just pay the tuition to hold his spot but not actually send him until September. I'm waiting for the director of the program to call with our approval. Since the program is affiliated with my alma mater and I know the director, I'm gonna see if I can pull some strings. We're only enrolling him in the morning session. I have no doubt in my mind that P is ready academically. I just don't know if he's ready socially or emotionally since I stay at home.

So do we send him before we think he's ready? Or should we sit this semester out and risk losing out in the fall? Eventually a space will open, we just don't know when...........

Hiya

I'm just popping in for a bit. I'm having major computer problems (again). Our laptop got wet and the keyboard is INOP. It's in the shop right now (again), but my mom is loaning us hers. I apologize for my absence and sensitivity, but stepping away for a while has been good for me. Thank you all so much for your very thoughtful, encouraging, and supportive pms/emails. They really meant so much to me!

Harper is officially weaned. She hasn't nursed since I last posted (and believe me I've tried). I'm down to pumping once a day for a sippy. I'm going to continue pumping until she's 15 months old, then I'm hanging my horns up. Exclusively breastfeeding for 14 months is an awesome accomplishment and I'm so very proud of us both. I'm also extremely pleased that we ended on her terms, when she was ready. Can't ask for anything more than that!

I hope you all are well. There hasn't been a day go by that I haven't thought about and prayed for each of you. I've missed you oodles!
