the wreckage

Mom and Gary met with their insurance adjustor this morning. The meeting went good and they are pleased with the amount of money they will be getting to rebuild as well as for their lost belongings. They are, however, disappointed in that the insurance company wants to basically gut out the home and use the existing bricks and foundation (why rebuild inside and on top of a structure that's obviously been compromised?!). They also get an allowance for 6 months rent and food. They found an apartment nearby and will be ready to move in September 26th. We're so thankful for insurance and again, most importantly, that they made it out safely! Here are a few pictures of the devastation:
Living room (the fire began in the attic here from two wires fused together--either from a squirrel (according to the fire marshal or a short in their back patio light (according to the insurance investigator):

This is so upsetting, I am so sorry Kelly for you and your entire family. Much love and prayers goes out to all of you. Wish I could be there for you to give you a hug.

While it is nice that they are getting what they need from the insurance company, it is tragic that the personal items can never be replaced. Makes you really think, what do I need to do to save those thing, those precious items from the kid's first days etc. My heart goes out to your mom. HUGS!
